Norman bats 5-for-7

BOSSIER CITY, La. - Trainer Cole Norman won five races from seven starters Friday at Louisiana Downs to equal the track's record for most wins on a card by a trainer. Jack Van Berg accomplished the feat on Dec. 5, 1976, and Frank Brothers turned the trick twice, on May 16, 1982, and Sept. 3, 1984.

Norman, the leading trainer at Louisiana Downs this season, won the first race with Fastaway ($5.20), the second with Rocketdoubleoseven ($10.40), the third with Lady Tethra ($4.60), the fifth with Track Lover ($4), and the ninth with Cinderella Story ($3.60). All of the horses were ridden by second-leading rider Anthony Lovato.

*Louisiana Downs will match the record $8,785 raised for Animal Welfare, Inc., during its annual weiner dog races on Saturday and contribute the money to the American Red Cross. Bets were taken on the 70-yard dachshund races, with winning wagers rewarded with T-shirts.
