Nonsuch Bay tough in win

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. - Nonsuch Bay served notice Friday that she could be a force to be reckoned with in her division again this season. She rallied to a 4 1/4-length victory over Lead Story and seven other older fillies and mares in Friday's $75,000 Banshee Breeze Handicap at Gulfstream Park. The victory was the fourth on the day for leading rider Eibar Coa.

Nonsuch Bay, winner of the Grade 1 Mother Goose and Grade 2 Nassau County at 3, rated off the early pace set by Dance the Slew. She had to steady momentarily to find room approaching the stretch, but readily took control once clear in early stretch and won with speed in reserve.

Nonsuch Bay, $3.80 as the favorite, covered 1 1/16 miles in 1:43.28 over a fast track.

Frank Alexander, who trains Nonsuch Bay, said Nonsuch Bay would likely make her next start in Aqueduct's Grade 3 Bed O'Roses Handicap on April 19.
