No Hesitation leads one-two finish for Meyaard stable

Trainer Jim Meyaard finished one-two with No Hesitation and Professor Pollard in the $50,000 Count Lathum at Northlands Park on Saturday. The 1 1/16-mile Count Lathum is the final local prep for the Grade 3, $300,000 Canadian Derby on Aug. 21.

With Rico Walcott aboard, No Hesitation set modest fractions of 23.60 and  47.20 seconds while under pressure from Gold Winner. He started to draw away from Gold Winner after six furlongs in 1:13 flat and took a 3 1/2-length lead into the stretch. No Hesitation was never threatened as he held off his stablemate to win by a comfortable two lengths. Gold Winner held on to finish third.

No Hesitation was sent off as the favorite and paid $3.70. Gold Medallion, the second choice in the wagering, finished fourth. Final time for the race was 1:44.60.
