No Golden Gate title for Baze this meet

Russell Baze, who has won 40 riding titles at Golden Gate Fields, including the past 12, won’t win the title at the six-week summer meet, which ends on Sunday.

Baze goes into the week with 20 winners, five behind Aaron Gryder and one behind Juan Hernandez. He has four mounts Friday but will be gone Saturday and Sunday.

On Saturday, he’ll ride Halo Dolly for Jerry Hollendorfer in the $750,000 Cotillion at Parx Racing in Pennsylvania. On Sunday, he is scheduled to ride in three stakes at Hastings Park in British Columbia.

Gryder has six mounts Friday and eight Saturday, while Hernandez, who had eight winners last weekend, also rides six and eight on those days.
Hollendorfer and Steve Sherman are tied for the training lead with 14 winners each. Hollendorfer has 11 runners entered Friday and Saturday, while Sherman sends out eight.

Bandwagon benefits

With the end of the 2011 baseball season imminent and the 2010 world champion San Francisco Giants eliminated from the playoffs, Golden Gate Fields will poke a little fun at the bandwagon Giants fans of 2010. Anyone attending Friday’s races and proclaiming, “I was a front-running Giants fan,” will receive free admission to the track.
In addition, anyone donating an item of Giants’ apparel will receive two free turf club passes.
