No Flies On Doodle re-rallies at Emerald

AUBURN, Wash. - No Flies On Doodle raced to a narrow victory Monday in the $50,000 Washington Legislators Handicap at Emerald Downs, her second consecutive stakes win and seventh victory in 10 career starts. The second favorite in the wagering, No Flies On Doodle ($6.60) defeated 7-5 favorite Hallelujah Trail by a neck, with Barbara's Love another half-length back in the field of six older fillies and mares.

No Flies On Doodle ran 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:16.80 over a sloppy track, opening a clear lead on the backstretch, relinquishing her advantage to Hallelujah Trail during the stretch run, and then battling back gamely under jockey Gallyn Mitchell to retake the lead nearing the finish.

The victory was worth $27,500 for owners Phil Sanken of Seattle and Keith and Jan Swagerty of Enumclaw, Wash. A Washington-bred by Storm Blast, No Flies On Doodle became the meeting's first double stakes winner and increased her career earnings to $161,052. She captured the six-furlong Hastings Handicap on May 2.

Perfect Finish and Gadget Queen completed the order of finish. She's All Silk broke down on the backstretch and was euthanized.

Trainer Vann Belvoir said No Flies On Doodle would start next in the one-mile King County Handicap on July 4. After that, Belvoir said he'll prepare the 4-year-old filly for the Claiming Crown at Canterbury Park on July 24. No Flies On Doodle, who launched her career in a $12,500 maiden claimer last April, is eligible for the $75,000 The Glass Slipper for fillies and mares at six furlongs on the dirt, one of six stakes races on the Claiming Crown program.
