No excuses for Flying Alibi

SAN MATEO, Calif. - Flying Alibi should appreciate the drop from allowance to claiming in Thursday's Bay Meadows feature, a mile turf race for $28,000-32,000 claiming fillies and mares.

Flying Alibi has made only four starts this year and is looking for her first victory. In her last race, at Bay Meadows on Sept. 24, she tried the turf for the first time and wound up fourth in an allowance race. She should find Thursday's race a much easier spot.

Earlier this year, Flying Alibi, who is trained by Rene Amescua, finished second in allowance company at Pleasanton. Last year Flying Alibi had one win from five starts, capturing a six-furlong allowance race here.

Exclusiveandcatty moves into Thursday's feature off a two-length victory over $25,000 claimers, and should prove the main competition to Flying Alibi. Exclusiveandcatty has raced only three times this year and seems to be improving with each start.

Trained by Brent Sumja, Exclusiveandcatty finished second against $25,000 claimers in her first race of the year. In her next start, she tired in a mile allowance race over the turf. She steps up slightly off her victory on Thursday but is in sharp form.

Prize Strudel comes off a third over the turf course here. She has two victories this year, both on dirt, and nine in her career, including two on turf. Earlier this season Prize Strudel defeated $32,000 claimers at Emerald Downs.
