No decision on California dates

The California Horse Racing Board's dates committee heard testimony from the state's major racing associations regarding the 2005 racing calendar Thursday at the Alameda County Fair simulcast facility. The committee will meet again July 23 at Del Mar, at which point it hopes to come up with a proposed schedule that will be voted upon by the full board in August.

Magna Entertainment and the Bay Meadows Land Company have both requested dates in northern California that have traditionally been run at the Bay Meadows Race Course. The Bay Meadows Land Company owns Bay Meadows and in recent years has leased the property to Magna. The Bay Meadows Land Company wants to operate the Bay Meadows meets itself next year.

Before Thursday's meeting, both groups met with officials from the Thoroughbred Owners of California and California Thoroughbred Trainers in an effort to arrive at a compromise plan, but one has not been reached.
