The Niner Account best in Brother Brown

The Niner Account and his trainer, Martin Lozano, won their first stakes race Sunday when The Niner Account drove clear by two and a quarter lengths in the $40,000 Brother Brown at Remington Park.

Silver Phone closed late for second, finishing a length and a quarter clear of third-place finisher April's Lucky Boy.

The Niner Account ($3.80) broke well from the rail in the five furlong turf race, moved to the leaders down the backside, and overtook them into the turn. He was clear of the field by the quarter pole and increased his advantage to the wire, covering the distance over firm turf in 56.64 seconds.

Cliff Berry rode The Niner Account, and the winner was his 1,300th at Remington. He is the second rider at the track to accomplish the mark this year. The first was Don Pettinger.

The Niner Account, a former claimer, earned $24,000 for the win in the Brother Brown. Overall he has won 14 of 22 starts and $213,720. The Niner Account races for Gary Owens.

Lozano resumed a training career last year after taking a hiatus from training. He now operates one of the top stables in Oklahoma and Texas.
