Nicole H tops small Interborough field

Nicole H, winner of the Garland of Roses on Dec. 4, will be the favorite in Saturday’s $65,000 Interborough Stakes at Aqueduct.

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – Nicole H, the dominant winner of the Garland of Roses here Dec. 4, heads a field of five fillies and mares entered in Saturday’s $65,000 Interborough Stakes. Only two of the 12 nominees entered the Interborough, but three horses were supplemented to the field to help make the race go.

Meese Rocks, who finished second to Nicole H in the Garland of Roses, looms the main challenger. Her stablemate, Quiet Mover, was one of the three supplements along with Bob’s Dylan and Purrfect Bluff.

On Wednesday, Nicole H worked four furlongs in 48.55 seconds, going her first quarter in 24.89 and her second quarter in 23.66. She galloped out five furlongs in 1:00.17.

“She’s always been a pretty good workhorse,” said Graham Wolfram, assistant to trainer Mike Hushion. Hushion was recently released from the hospital after undergoing surgery to remove his appendix. “She came out of her last race fine.”
