Nice matchup in President's Cup at Lincoln

A deep group of eight older horses will go six furlongs in the $15,000 President's Cup Stakes. The field includes Tonight Rainbow, who will make his first appearance at State Fair Park since 2006, and The Nutz, who returns to action for the first time since his Dowd Mile win at Fonner Park in April.

Tonight Rainbow, a gritty 10-year-old trained by Boyd Caster, shipped to Nebraska to take the Grasmick Stakes at Fonner Park in February in what has been a regular stop on his schedule. His summer travel plans have not included Lincoln since he won the Speed Handicap here in 2006. His last appearance in the President's Cup came in 2003, when he was second to Buzz Bar.

Following his Grasmick win this year, Tonight Rainbow captured an allowance at Will Rogers Downs in Oklahoma and most recently was fourth after dueling on the pace in the $56,000 OTA Classic, also at Will Rogers. Mike Ziegler will ride.

The Nutz will make his much anticipated return to the races after scratching from the Bosselman/Gus Fonner Stakes at Fonner Park in April with a hoof problem. Trainer Steve Hall should have The Nutz ready off a pair of strong half-mile drills. Damon Leeds will be aboard.

The Nutz , a 5-year-old son of Chester House, won the Budweiser Tondi Stakes at Fonner this spring. He was a two-time winner here last year and was most impressive dominating the mile-and-70-yard State Fair Board Stakes by three lengths.
