Next stop New York for Untapable

Kentucky Oaks winner Untapable will run next in either the Acorn or the Mother Goose at Belmont Park.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Untapable will be considered for the Acorn or Mother Goose stakes for her next start, trainer Steve Asmussen said Wednesday, the second day for the filly to go to the track since she dominated the Kentucky Oaks last Friday at Churchill Downs.

Asmussen typically breezes his horses nine days after a race but said he’d “most likely skip” a work this Sunday for Untapable “and maybe wait another week before we let her get back into a nice rhythm.”

Both the $750,000 Acorn and $300,000 Mother Goose are major events in the 3-year-old filly division. They will be run three weeks apart at Belmont Park on June 7 and June 28. The Grade 1 Acorn is run at a mile, and the Grade 1 Mother Goose is one-sixteenth of a mile longer.

Untapable, bred and owned by Winchell Thoroughbreds, was an even-money favorite in capturing the Oaks by 4 1/2 lengths and coming within 0.04 seconds of the stakes record with her final time of 1:48.68.

“She went back to the track [Tuesday] and has been just wonderful,” Asmussen said.

steve wasnt surprized when tapitable came up short in the derby. tapit horses have trouble winning past 9f on dirt. this sounds like a reasonable schedule. when it comes observing the parades before the oaks and derby. steve had the two most fired up horses.

Tapitable? Or Tapiture.

Track condition is huge is assessing raw times. To assume Untapable could have beaten the colts on Derby Day based on her time the previous day is simply incomplete thinking.

I'm rather surprised the Mother Goose purse stayed the same while the Acorn, among other NY stakes, got a major boost. Looking forward to seeing how she fares the remainder of the year. Her BC is a toss as I think she was impeded by the ill-fated Secret Compass. Other than that she's shown up every time and looks better than ever.

When I looked it up to see how it's put together now, the Triple Tiara is Acorn, Coaching Club American Oaks, and Alabama unless I misread something. Maybe this is their way of trying to entice owners to try it? I can't wait to see how they cover the BC Juvenile Fillies this fall. "The Kentucky Oaks winner came out of this race!...She finished almost last, eased behind rivals she trounced easily the next year." I just find it amusing, maybe it's just me.

Horses change as the months go by. They change especially between their 2 and 3 yo years. They grow physically and mentally and this makes them a different horse than 6 months ago.

The purse disparity appears rather ridiculous as it is more or less a four race series ending with the Alabama. You would think this purses would increase like the distances. Wouldn't think the Acorn at a one turn mile is an ideal spot for Untapable.

Is the Triple Tiara still feasible for did they move and switch the races around too much? If she's not gonna see males any time soon, why not go for it? That's a short list of nice fillies to potentially join and it hasn't been done since the ninties.
