Newmarket trio Cup-bound

The fallout from Saturday's events at Newmarket was positive for the Breeders' Cup, as Starcraft, Dubawi, and Ouija Board are all headed to Belmont Park for what promises to be one of the strongest European contingents in many years.

After beating Dubawi by three-quarters of a length in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes, the Australian-based Starcraft is being pointed to the Breeders' Cup Mile, for a $300,000 supplementary fee.

Peter Makin, part of the syndicate that owns Starcraft, is bullish on the Mile, saying the horse traveled from Australia "to race against the best in the world, not to take on pussycats. Leroidesanimaux is the one we'd like to beat."

Dubawi will get a chance for redemption in the Mile as a disappointed Godolphin team regroups after Dubawi, their 3-2 favorite, went down to defeat under an ill-judged ride from Frankie Dettori.

Trainer Michael Jarvis, however, is having second thoughts about sending the QE II's fourth-place finisher, Rakti, to the Mile, fearing the possibility of soft ground.

Meanwhile, Ouija Board earned a chance to defend her Filly and Mare Turf title with a 2 1/2-length victory in the 1 1/2-mile Group 3 Princess Royal Stakes. Although she is nominated to both the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe and the Prix de l'Opera at Longchamp on Sunday, trainer Ed Dunlop said that she is "90 percent plus" more likely to go straight to Belmont for the Breeders' Cup.
