New York breeders elect Ostrager president

The New York Thoroughbred Breeders has elected Barry Ostrager as its new president and also added two new board members.

Lois Engel, owner of Pucker Ridge Farm in Warrensburg, N.Y., and John Thomas McMahon, owner of Old Saratoga Thoroughbreds and farm manager of McMahon of Saratoga Thoroughbreds, are new board members for 2009. Both will serve two-year terms.

Three other board members were reelected to two-year terms and also take officer positions. Tom Gallo III will take up the vice president post. Gallo is owner of Blue Stone Farm in Cambridge, N.Y., and also operates Thomas J. Gallo Sales Agency and manages the Parting Glass Racing partnerships. Vivian Malloy, owner of Edition Farm in Waccabuc, N.Y., was reelected as secretary/treasurer. Dr. Chris Purdy of Ivy League Farm in Ithaca, N.Y., also was reelected to the board.
