New Beulah bet hit for $50K

Beulah Park's new pick-six bet, the Fortune 6, was hit on the fourth day it was offered Wednesday, with the winner collecting $50,000.

The Fortune 6 is a 25-cent wager that pays off its carryover only if a single ticket has the winners of the six races in the sequence. Wednesday's winners were Frantanic Panic ($26.40), Kipper Kate ($4.20), Mandy G ($12.20), General Mark ($3.60), Expected Flirt ($10), and True Bet ($13.40).

Beulah, which guaranteed a $50,000 pool for the initial Fortune 6, had to put up approximately $27,000 of its own money to pay Wednesday's winning ticket. The bet had handled just over $10,000 per day since it debuted last Saturday. The lone winning ticket Wednesday was purchased through the Lewiston, Maine, hub, which accepts bets from many offshore rebate shops.

Beulah has reduced the pool's guarantee to $10,000 when the wager resumes Friday.

* Beulah recorded the highest handle in its 81-year history on Wednesday, taking in $3,216,364 from all sources on the 10-race program. That easily surpassed the previous record of $2,611,746, bet on Feb. 18, 2004.
