New auction scheduled at Saratoga

The New York Breeders' Sales Co. has scheduled a yearling sale in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., for Aug. 11-12, between the Fasig-Tipton selected yearling sale and Fasig-Tipton preferred sale, both also to be held in Saratoga Springs.

Harry Landry, the director of sales for the company, said the sale will offer up to 380 yearlings over the two nights from a mix of states.

"We're hoping to attract some really nice candidates from Pennsylvania, West Virginia, New Jersey, and some of the other neighboring states where the breeding programs have been improving," Landry said.

The yearling sale will be the second held by the company, which was formed last summer. The company is also planning a mixed sale for mid-October this year, also in Saratoga. Both sales will be held at the show grounds adjacent to Saratoga Race Course on Union Ave.

The addition of the sale to the calendar will give potential horse buyers six days of nearly constant shopping, all during the Saratoga race meet. The Fasig-Tipton selected yearling sale, considered the second-most prestigious yearling sale in the country, will be held Aug. 9-10, and the Fasig-Tipton preferred sale, which is open to New York-bred horses, will be held Aug. 14-15. Both Fasig-Tipton sales will be held at the company's sales grounds on Madison Avenue.
