Naughty New Yorker rallies in Robb

Naughty New Yorker took advantage of a hot early pace to wear down Accountforthegold in the stretch and win Sunday's $69,720 Alex M. Robb Handicap by 2 3/4 lengths at Aqueduct.

Who What Win got up in the final strides to nip 6-5 favorite Accountforthegold by a head for second. It was 6 1/2 lengths back to Carminooch in fourth. Indian Hawke completed the order of finish.

It was the fourth victory from nine starts this year for Naughty New Yorker, with all four wins following races in which he finished out of the money. It was the ninth win from 29 career starts for the New York-bred son of Quiet American, owned by Fox Ridge Farm and trained by Pat Kelly.

Under Jean-Luc Samyn, Naughty New Yorker was last of five through the first three-quarters of a mile as Accountforthegold ran the opening six furlongs in 1:10.27 while being pursued by Indian Hawke. Accountforthegold, under Mike Luzzi, put that rival away in the stretch, but Naughty New Yorker took over just outside the sixteenth pole en route to the victory. Naughty New Yorker covered the 1 1/16 miles in 1:42.64 over a fast inner track and returned $11.40 to win.
