Nationhood holds off even-money favorite

Nationhood ($6.40) confronted the pacesetting Westsideclyde after six furlongs in 1:10.60, forged to the front in the upper stretch, and drew off to score a 2 1/2-length victory in Sunday's $60,000 Budweiser Emerald Handicap at Emerald Downs.

Westsideclyde, the even-money choice, held second by a half-length over Jamaica Bound.

Nationhood, a 6-year-old son of Cherokee Run from the barn of trainer Mike Chambers, got the one-mile distance in 1:35.20 under rider Seth Martinez. He earned $33,000 for his owner, Cander Racing. It was the eighth win from 20 starts for Nationhood, who has now earned $180,570.
