Nasty Storm savors Weekend Delight

Nasty Storm did all the chasing Saturday before finally wearing down odds-on Hidden Assets to capture the $75,000 Weekend Delight Stakes at Turfway Park in Florence, Ky.

Ridden by Jon Court, Nasty Storm overtook Hidden Assets inside the sixteenth pole in the six-furlong Weekend Delight, then edged away to prevail by a length. She returned $6.20 as second choice in a field of six fillies and mares after finishing in 1:09.94 over a fast track.

Hidden Assets, the 3-5 favorite under Lonnie Meche, held a clear lead from the start before giving way. She finished easily clear of City Fair to complete an $11.20 exacta.

Nasty Storm, owned by a partnership that includes former University of Louisville basketball coach Denny Crum, was beaten six lengths following a poor start in her previous start, the Grade 1 Test Stakes on July 28 at Saratoga. She is a 3-year-old trained by Dallas Stewart.

*Later Saturday, Karly's Harley ($5.80) defeated Dakota Prospect by a neck in the $45,000 Yaqthan Stakes at Turfway's sister track, Kentucky Downs, the turf-only track in Franklin, Ky.

Karly's Harley and Dakota Prospect gradually wore down front-runners Wertz and Gail's Drive in the one-mile race. Karly's Harley is owned by Ken and Sarah Ramsey and trained by Chuck Simon.

The Kentucky Downs card opened a seven-day fall meet that runs through Sept. 24. On weekends, the Turfway and Kentucky Downs cards are interspersed, with a combined 16 races having been run Saturday.
