Nakatani reaches 3,000 wins

Jockey Corey Nakatani rode the 3,000th winner of his 18-year career, Shakin N Dancin in Monday's ninth race at Hollywood Park. The victory was Nakatani's fourth of the day, including aboard Aragorn in the Grade 1 Shoemaker Breeders' Cup Mile.

"When things go your way, it was meant to be," he said after a winner's circle celebration that included photos with friends and family and having his face pushed into a cake commemorating the milestone.

Earlier in the program, Nakatani, 35, won maiden races aboard Diamond Dave and Li Bien.

Nakatani has been one of the leading riders in Southern California in the last decade. He has won six Breeders' Cup races, the most recent of which was the 2004 Juvenile Fillies with Sweet Catomine. He has ranked as high as second in the nation in earnings behind Jerry Bailey in 1995.

Nakatani said he hopes to regain that status. Through Monday, he was 11th in the national standings with $4,475,882 in earnings.

"I want to do the best I can do. Hopefully, this will springboard me to being the leading rider in the nation," he said.
