Mystery Classic reiterated his status as one of the top sprinters in this region on Saturday night, when he won his fourth straight stakes in the $45,000 J.R. Straus Memorial at Retama Park. He led throughout for a three length win over defending champ Nuttyboom, who was three lengths clear of third-place finisher War Bridle. Mystery Classic ($3.60) was up by a length and a half through an opening quarter in 22.22 seconds in the six-furlong Straus, and remained in command of the race through a half-mile in 44.67. He went on to cover the distance in 1:08.84. Bobby Walker Jr. rode Mystery Classic for trainer Bob Schultz. Mystery Classic had won his three previous starts heading into the Straus, taking the $50,000 Brother Brown and $50,000 Taliaferro Memorial, both at Remington Park, and the $50,000 Lone Star Park Sprint at Lone Star. Overall, he has won 11 of 16 starts and $249,510 for owner-breeder John L. Pierce.
