Mysia Jo takes Camelia

NEW ORLEANS - Mysia Jo flew through the final furlong of the $100,000 , beating longshots Autobesarah and Eastern Sun by 3 1/2 lengths on Monday, closing day at Fair Grounds.

For Louisiana-bred fillies and mares at about one mile on turf, the Red Camelia attracted 13 starters. Despite breaking from an outside post, Fair Grounds riding champion Eddie Martin Jr. managed to get Mysia Jo into the two path on the first turn. Martin continued saving ground on the backstretch, then began moving up on the far turn. Mysia Jo began passing horses, swung to the inside at the top of the stretch, and easily outfinished the rest of the field. Trained by Bobby Barnett, Mysia Jo paid $10.80 and was timed in 1:38.21 over firm turf.

Sarah Lane's Oates, making the final start of a wonderful career for owner Glen Warren and trainer Andy Leggio, could not muster the necessary finish and came home in a dead heat for sixth in a race she had won three years in a row in years past.
