Myboycharlie wins Morny

Myboycharlie charged to the head of the European 2-year-old class at Deauville on Sunday with a last-to-first victory in the Groupo1, $471,000 Prix Morny.

The cause of Myboycharlie, a son of Danetime, was aided by early-afternoon rain, which had quickly changed the going from good to soft. The winner of the Group 3 Anglesey Stakes at the Curragh on soft to heavy ground, Myboycharlie and his rider, Kieren Fallon, took full advantage of the conditions to defeat the pacesetting filly Natagora by two lengths, with Alexandros a half-length farther back in third. Winker Watson, twice a Group 2 winner in England, was scratched because of the going. The time for the straight six furlongs was 1:13.10

Banged down from 10-1 to 3-2 favoritism because of his prediliction for soft footing, Myboycharlie, trained by Tommy Stack, is now 3 for 3.

* On the Morny undercard, Satwa Queen took the Grouip2, $175,000 Prix Jean Romanet for the second year in succession. Fifth in last year's Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf, the even money Jean de Roualle-trainee outdueled Bahia Breeze by a short head while covering the 1 1/4 miles in 2:11.10.
