My Vintage Port takes Princess Elizabeth

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - My Vintage Port ($19.20) parlayed an ideal stalking trip into a daylight victory in the $250,000 Princess Elizabeth Stakes for 2-year-olds fillies at Woodbine Sunday.

Dream About, the 1-5 favorite, finished a well-beaten fourth in the mile and a sixteenth event, which had no show wagering. With the bulk of the place pool riding on Dream About, My Vintage Port returned a fat $21 to place, while runner-up Silver Bird paid $14 to place.

Dream About and Silver Bird hooked up on the front end through fractions of :23.81, :47.33 and 1:12.59. My Vintage Port joined the leaders while three wide on the far turn, and hit the front at the eighth pole before drawing off to prevail by three and three-quarter lengths. Silver Bird was five lengths clear of third-place finisher Oblivious in the six-horse field of Canadian-breds. The final time was 1:48.95.

"The race went exactly the way I wanted it to run," said Jono Jones, who rode My Vintage Port. "At the quarter pole, I knew I had a good shot at (Dream About)."

My Vintage Port, owned by the partnership of Rick Pettifer and trainer Ken Parsley, earned $150,000 while notching her second straight stakes.
