Multiple graded stakes winner Prospective to Ocala Stud

Grade 2 winner Prospective, who was retired from racing in September, will begin his stallion career in 2014 at J. Michael O’Farrell Jr.’s Ocala Stud in Ocala, Fla.

The 4-year-old son of Malibu Moon finished his on-track career with seven wins in 17 starts for earnings of $719,130. His resume is highlighted by wins in the Grade 2 Tampa Bay Derby and the Grade 3 Grey Stakes and Ohio Derby.

A $250,000 purchase at the 2010 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga selected yearling sale, Prospective raced for owner John Oxley and trainer Mark Casse.

“We are excited to have the opportunity to stand such a grand-looking son of Malibu Moon as Prospective,” O’Farrell said. “With his looks, breeding, race record, and the class he shows, I think breeders will absolutely love him. We look forward to supporting him with plenty of our own mares.”

Bred in Kentucky by Spendthrift Farm, Prospective is the first foal out of the stakes-winning Awesome Again mare Spirited Away. His third dam is champion older mare North Sider, and his extended family includes Puerto Rican Group 1 winner Mi Jesuse and Grade 2-placed stakes winner Sheer Beauty.

A stud fee for Prospective will be announced at a later date.
