Much the same cast for mile

OZONE PARK, N.Y. - The second-level allowance race for fillies and mares that serves as Friday's feature at Aqueduct didn't get any easier to handicap than it was when originally carded for last Sunday, a card that was canceled because of extreme cold.

Nine of the 10 horses who were entered for last Sunday are entered back for Friday, a day where 1 to 3 inches of snow is forecast. The field for the one-mile race includes horses who made their last start at Laurel, Finger Lakes, Meadowlands, Belmont Park (turf and dirt), and Aqueduct.

On Oct. 18, McVictory won a first-level allowance race by 4 1/4 lengths in the slop, a race washed off the turf. She earned a career-best Beyer Speed Figure of 90. Trainer Robert Barbara is hopeful that performance is a sign of things to come from McVictory, a 4-year-old daughter of Victory Gallop.

"She seems to be training and working a lot better over the last couple of months than she had prior, so I'm just hoping that wasn't a fluke, and hopefully she'll live up to that race and be a racehorse," said Barbara, who has tabbed leading jockey David Cohen to ride.

Starship Angel comes off a lifetime-best performance winning a first-level allowance at the Meadowlands by 9 1/2 lengths on Dec. 1 That was her second race after having an aluminum pad removed from a front foot. In her first start without the aluminum pad, she finished fifth to McVictory.

"She's definitely a lot healthier now," said Art Magnuson, the assistant to trainer Kiaran McLaughlin.

In the re-draw, Starship Angel went from the rail to the outside post.

Stormy Relations, who has made 15 of her first 16 starts on the turf, tries dirt again. Her lone start on dirt resulted in a last-place finish in an off-the-turf race in the second start of her career. The interesting angle regarding Stormy Relations, trained by David Donk, is that all three of her victories have come following extended layoffs. This will be her first start since finishing seventh in an Oct. 8 overnight stakes on the turf.

Cape Cod Girl, Judge Margaret, and Salt Water Reign all have run races that make them fit here. Salt Water Reign is making her first start around two turns in this spot.
