Much Faster eyes Group 1

Much Faster, an undefeated 2-year-old daughter of leading European first-year sire Fasliyev, seeks a Group 1 title in the $271,000 Prix Morny at six furlongs on Sunday, the closing day of Deauville's showcase August meeting.

Trained by Pascal Bary, Much Faster has progressed steadily since her debut tally in a Chantilly maiden on May 23, defeating colts in the listed Prix La Fleche, the Group 3 Prix du Bois, and the Group 2 Prix Robert Papin.

She meets colts again in the Morny, but as her rider Thierry Thulliez said after her 5 1/2-furlong Robert Papin victory, "She will be even better over six."

Old Deuteronomy is the best of three Aidan O'Brien-trained entries. He was a length behind winning stablemate One Cool Cat in the Group 1 Phoenix Stakes on Aug. 10, with Three Valleys three lengths farther back in third. The third O'Brien horse, Colossus, needs to improve after finishing three lengths behind Much Faster in the Robert Papin. Also in the race is Carrizo Creek, who beat Old Deuteronomy when winning the Group 2 Richmond Stakes.

The spoiler, however, could be Haskilclara. She made it 2 for 2 with a listed win over colts at Deauville on July 13, stepping seven furlongs in a swift 1:22.40.

In the 1 9/16-mile Group 2 Grand Prix de Deauville, the improving 3-year-old Policy Maker, a course and distance winner last time in the listed Prix de Reux, is taken to upset Polish Summer and Princely Venture.

River Belle should handle the step up in class in the Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes at The Curragh against O'Brien's Group 3 Debutante Stakes winner Necklace. Team Valor purchased the unbeaten River Belle after her victory in the Group 3 Princess Margaret Stakes at Ascot on July 26.
