Mubtaker seeks four-peat

Mubtaker is scheduled to go for his fourth consecutive victory in the Group 2 Geoffrey Freer Stakes at Newbury on Saturday, and Attraction, a four-time Group 1 winner, makes her long-awaited return on the same card in the Group 3 Hungerford Stakes.

Trained by Marcus Tregoning, Mubtaker, 8, will have his work cut out for him in the 1 5/8-mile and 61-yard Geoffrey Freer, as he faces the in-form Group 2 winner Day Flight.

Attraction, the only horse to win both the English and Irish 1000 Guineas, has not raced since finishing a dull 11th in the Champions Mile at Sha Tin on May 14. A Mark Johnston trainee, she will have to be near her best to prevail in a competitive field in the straight seven-furlong Hungerford.

On Thursday at Salisbury, the 9-2 Layman returned from a 10-month absence to defeat Jack Sullivan by two lengths in the Group 3 Sovereign Stakes. Layman ran the straight, uphill mile in a track-record 1:38.29.

* Ouija Board, last year's Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf winner but unraced since suffering a stress fracture in the Prince of Wales's Stakes on June 15, has had her return date moved up three weeks to Sept. 3 in the September Stakes at Newmarket.
