Multiple stakes producer Ms. Stalwart was euthanized due to the infirmities of old age on Jan. 28 at Our Mims Retirement Haven at Ahwenasa Farm, near Paris, Ky.
The Stalwart mare was 29. She had been pensioned at Our Mims since 2009.
"It was an honor to have this mare in our lives," farm manager Jeanne Mirabito said. "Ms Stalwart will be remembered for her sweet disposition. She will be missed."
Ms. Stalwart, who won five of 29 career starts, produced her first foal, the Claramount gelding Stalwart Member, in 1993. He won seven stakes events, including Grade 3 triumphs in two editions of the Sport Page Handicap, as well as a win in the Gravesend Handicap. The gelding, who was also Grade 1-placed, earned $783,807.
Ms. Stalwart also produced stakes winner Mount Intrepid, a full brother to Stalwart Member. All six of her foals to race were winners.
Out of the stakes-winning Claim Staker mare Night Staker, Ms. Stalwart was a half-sister to steeplechase stakes winner Deprays and two stakes-placed winners.
