Mr. King Rex captures Pelican Stakes

Bossier City, La. - Mr. King Rex captured Sunday's closing day featured Pelican Stakes to add yet another win to leading trainer Cole Norman's record breaking season. Odds-on favorite Witt Ante, who broke slowly, was left with too much to do and had to settle for second, losing for the first time in three career starts. Sevenforbish reported home third followed by another Norman charge, Teepee Creeper.

Norman won 125 races over the 80-day stand, including nine stakes wins. Tower Equities' Mr. King Rex won for the second time at the meeting after contesting the pace from start to finish under Jamie Theriot and prevailed in game fashion as many of Norman's runners have throughout the meeting.

Dr. King Rex ($16.00) avenged a third place finish to Witt Ante in the Stardust Stakes in their last meeting after being bumped at the start. He covered the six furlongs in a solid 1:11.38 over a fast strip and has now won twice in seven starts with career earnings of just over $37,000.
