Mr Havercamp wins the Vice Regent Stakes to remain unbeaten in three Woodbine starts.

ETOBICOKE, Ontario — Mr Havercamp ($2.80) overcame a slow start and a speed-favoring Woodbine turf course to take Saturday’s $125,000 Vice Regent Stakes over another son of Court Vision, King and His Court.

Mr Havercamp gave the others about a two-length head start in the one-mile race for Ontario-sired 3-year-olds. He raced well back in seventh through the turn, and then mounted a wide rally in the stretch to prevail by a length over King and His Court, who had closed strongly on the far outside from last.

Dragon’s Cry pressed a quick pace, set by the maiden Silent Empire, before assuming command in the stretch, and managed to nose out Silent Jimmie for third after weakening in the final sixteenth. Buttermilk Pike, Katalox, Sterling Silence, and Silent Empire completed the order of finish. Signature Data was scratched.

Over firm ground, the Catherine Day Phillips-trained Mr Havercamp completed the distance in 1:33.82. He earned $75,000 in his first stakes score for owners Sean and Dorothy Fitzhenry, and is unbeaten in three Woodbine outings. His only loss was a troubled fifth in the Grade 3 Saranac at Saratoga on Sept. 2.
