Mountaineer track report

Any horse entered by Chicago-based trainer Larry Rivelli should be considered a serious contender.

Rivelli is now 5 for 10 at the meet, with a $3.24 return on investment and 80 percent in the money, following the second win in a row at the $5,000 level by Always Valiant ($5.40) in Monday night's second race. Tho Nguyen has been Rivelli's go-to rider and is 5 for 14 with a $2.31 ROI at the meet.

* Dale Baird rarely claims off another trainer, but he dropped in two slips on Sunday, taking Chute the Breeze for $5,000 and Wanna Be Like Dad for $10,000.

Chute the Breeze, who had been running at the bottom level of $7,500 in New York for Mike Sedlacek, won race 3, but Wanna Be Like Dad, the 8-5 favorite in race 8, was pulled up and vanned off.

* Doug Shanyfelt won twice with horses returning from layoffs of longer than 60 days on Feb. 15. Cielo City ($5.60) won a $5,000 sprint, and South Christian ($11.60) scored in a conditioned $15,000 claimer.
