Mountaineer track report

Shippers continue to run well at Mountaineer Park. Last week, the first five-night racing week of the winter meet, horses who last raced at 11 different racetracks won.

Much like last winter, runners coming in from Turfway Park in northern Kentucky did best. Four Turfway shippers were winners.

Horses who most recently raced at Fair Grounds, Churchill Downs, Hollywood Park, and Aqueduct also won at least once.

* Tonto Gusto, trained by Penn National-based John Zimmerman, romped by five lengths in Sunday's $41,600 allowance feature. The 7-year-old Tonto Gusto, who ran second in the Christmas Handicap in his only previous race at Mountaineer, is now 14 for 42 lifetime with earnings of just over $305,000.

* Out For Gold, a 12-year-old gelding, ran third under seven-pound apprentice Rey Hernandez in Monday's first race for $4,000 claimers. The durable Out For Gold, winner of 32 races in 167 starts, now has earned just over $306,000.
