Mountaineer track report

Horse-for-the-course Cobra Lady drew off to a 3 3/4-length victory in Tuesday night's $75,000 Ohio Valley Handicap for filly-and-mare sprinters at Mountaineer.

A 5-year-old mare trained and owned by J. Michael Baird, Cobra Lady ($4.40) is now 8 for 15 lifetime on the Mountaineer main track and has won 6 of her last 7 races at 5 1/2 or six furlongs.

Facing four rivals in the Ohio Valley, Cobra Lady pressed the pace set by even-money favorite Hostility until jockey Bobby Walker Jr. decided to take her back slightly and angled her to the outside midway on the turn. Cobra Lady easily blew past the tiring pacesetter, and completed six furlongs on a fast track in 1:09.67.

Kentucky invader Ready and Tough finished second, a half-length in front of Shannons Valentine. Hostility, who had beaten Cobra Lady by five lengths in the five-furlong Hancock County Handicap two weeks ago, faded to fourth.
