Mountaineer Park track report

Kris Prather won her first race at Mountaineer Park on Monday when she guided Wildalot ($8.60), trained by Mike Pappada, from off the pace, against the grain of a speed-favoring track. Prather, who moved her tack to the West Virginia oval after a brief stay at Oaklawn Park, will retain her apprentice status until June.

* Deshawn Parker rode seven winners during the week to move into second place in the jockey standings at the winter meet with 23. Dana Whitney holds a comfortable lead with 38.

* Through 25 programs, 109 horses have been claimed, a 66 percent increase from the same point of last year's winter meet. Of that group, 39 horses were claimed by more than one trainer. The most popular claims rarely reaped quick dividends, however. Only three of the horses involved in a shake to determine who would be awarded the claim came back to win in their next start.

* Sunday's combined handle of $1,594,276 came close to Mountaineer's single-card record of $1,601,338, set at last year's West Virginia Derby.
