Mountaineer: Eagle Time upsets

Eagle Time has suddenly learned how to win again.

A 6-year-old horse trained by Rick Jordan, Eagle Time was a combined 1 for 19 during the past two seasons. Eagle Time ($36.60) has now won two in a row, however, after his upset in the $77,900 Memorial Day Handicap at Mountaineer Park.

It was Eagle Time's first stakes win since he captured the Texas Derby in March 2000 at Sunland Park. Since then, he had lost all seven stakes in which he ran. He prepped for the Memorial Day by winning an allowance race at Thistledown.

Ridden by Jane Magrell, Eagle Time finished 3 3/4 lengths ahead of runner-up Taylortwofeathers after covering a mile in 1:36.63. Guardianofthegate, the 8-5 favorite, finished sixth of nine.

In the co-featured $78,000 Decoration Day Handicap for fillies and mares, favored Ashwood CC ($7.40) drew off to a 3 3/4-length win over 15-1 shot Forty Marinesca. The winning time was 1:37.19.

Both stakes were originally scheduled for 7 1/2 furlongs on turf, but were moved to the main track.
