Captain Genius set a pressured pace while off the rail under Deshawn Parker and after being moved to the four path in upper stretch drew off to win the $85.000 Mountaineer Park Sophomore Sprint on Tuesday night.
Trained by Joe Woodard for owner Billy Hays, Captain Genuis put away Warrioroftheroses and Jasizzle coming into the stretch on his way to an 8 1/2-length win in ridden-out fashion.
Jasizzle hung on for second in the eight-horse field of 3-year-olds, finishing 2 1/2 lengths in front of Fleet Eagle in third.
Running time for the six-furlongs over a track labeled good was 1.10.61. Captain Genius returned $4.20 to win.
Best Bets
Any of LOGAN STREET's last three races at Gulfstream are good enough to overhaul these, the latest against 1-2 Big John B in a richer "beaten" claimer; good spot for first local outing. CHARDSEY rallied smartly from the back of the pack to be a clear second behind front-running Yo Blue under these conditions May 5; having a recent race over the course can't hurt. BARZINI and QUIET DANGER come off wire-to-wire maiden wins and could conceivably cancel themselves out battling for the lead.
