Mountaineer: Blueeyesintherein scratched from Juvenile Fillies

CHESTER, W.Va. – Blueeyesintherein was scratched this morning as the heavy favorite for the $100,000 Mountaineer Juvenile Fillies after taking what trainer Garry Simms described as “a few bad steps out of her stall.”

Blueeyesintherein, the unbeaten winner of the Grade 3 Debutante Stakes at Churchill Downs six weeks ago, made the van trip from Kentucky on Friday. “She walked out of the van fine, we walked her some yesterday, and everything was just fine,” said Simms. “She’s just a little off, that’s all, and we have the vets trying to pinpoint the exact problem. Obviously I had no choice but to scratch her. It’s a tough deal, but that’s horse racing.”

Laughing, he added:  “And I sure ain’t mad at the filly. I still love her.”

Simms still has Circle Unbroken, the unbeaten winner of the Grade 3 Bashford Manor at Churchill, as the heavy favorite for the $100,000 Mountaineer Juvenile. A nine-race, all-stakes program begins at 2 p.m. Eastern with the Juvenile and is highlighted by the $750,000 West Virginia Derby (race 8, 5:45). Live video streaming of the entire card is available at drf.com.

The defection of Blueeyesintherein leaves Scammony and Significant Bling as the likely choices in the Juvenile Fillies (race 4, 3:30).
