Like mother, like daughter in stakes?

SASKATOON, Saskatchewan - Picture the Answer runs in Friday's $5,000 Graceful Klinchit Handicap at Marquis Downs, a 1 1/16-mile race named after her dam.

Graceful Klinchit was the winningest filly or mare in this province's Thoroughbred racing history, with 26 victories.

Picture the Answer, Graceful Klinchit's 4-year-old daughter, won the Prairie Lily here at 2 but did not win another stakes until the Madamoiselle Handicap, which was her last start. The Madamoiselle was at a mile, and Picture the Answer battled for the lead before clearing down the stretch to score a two-length victory.

Serge Rocheleau, the runaway leader in the jockey standings with 49 winners, retains the mount.

Three other fillies and mares have entered the Graceful Klinchit.

She's Nifty was the top 3-year old filly in the province last year, when she won two stakes races, both handy decisions over Picture the Answer, but she has failed to get on track in 2004. She's Nifty has just a third-place finish in the Adesa Auto Glass Handicap to show from three starts and has been off since that effort June 25.

Argyl Rose has won two straight and steps up Friday under new rider Haniff Emamalie, who is second in the jockeys' race with 27 wins.

Completing the field is Jacki's Lil Wacki, an 11-year-old mare who has two wins this year at the bottom claiming level.

* With just three weekends left in the meet, the trainers' race is much closer than the jockeys' race. Hubert Pilon leads with 16 wins, and Don Bjarnarson and Russell Gardipy are tied for second with 15 wins apiece. Pilon's starters, however, have more than double the earnings of his closest rival in that category.
