Most of Sunday card canceled due to electrical malfunction

Los Alamitos canceled the final six races on Sunday’s eight-race program after an electrical malfunction caused a failure of the backstretch lighting system, track officials announced.

The first two races were run, but the remaining six races for lower-level Thoroughbreds and Quarter Horses, including a minor stakes for Quarter Horses at 550 yards, were scrapped.

The track paid out its 50-cent pick four bet on the combination of 7-1-all-all. The bet paid $2.60. The track cited a California Horse Racing Board rule that dictates that if at least two races of a pick four are run, the bet must be paid.

The winners of the first two races on Sunday were Turf Club Queen ($3) and Araceli B C M D ($3).

Refunds were offered in the $1 place pick all that began in the first race and the $1 pick three that began in the second race. Place-pick-all bets are paid out if at least four races are run. Pick-three bets are refunded if more than one race is canceled.

Racing is scheduled to resume Friday evening. There is a pick-six carryover of $3,280 for Friday.
