Mossbank on a roll at Northlands

Mossbank goes for his third straight win when he faces a tough group of older horses in the sixth race at Northlands Park Wednesday. The 6 1/2-furlong $30,000 claiming sprint drew eight horses and headlines an excellent mid-week card.

Trained by Floyd Arthur, Mossbank started his win streak in a $15,000 nonwinners-of-two claiming race on May 16. With Stephan Heiler in the irons, Mossbank broke on top from the rail and never looked back. Mossbank stepped up to face third-level allowance horses in his next start, and he couldn't have been more impressive. With Rickey Walcott aboard, Mossbank once again broke alertly from the rail and cruised to win by 6 1/4 lengths over I'm Slick Two.

Mossbank drew the rail for the third straight race on Wednesday, and it is safe to say Heiler will try and put him on the lead.

Plagerist, trained by Jim Meyaard, also has very good speed and he is coming off of a sharp win over Alarico in a $22,000 claiming race on June 5. In his previous start Plagerist forced the pace and held on to finish second for the same price. Rico Walcott retains the mount.

If a speed duel develops it could set up for the stakes winners Bad Hat or Hurricane Tiki.

Bad Hat, a triple stakes winner at Woodbine with earnings of $295,303, is making his first start this year. He closed out 2008 with a fourth-place finish in a $40,000 optional race here on Sept. 27.

Hurricane Tiki could be coming up to a peak effort in his third start at the meet. In his latest start he made a late move to finish fifth in a $30,000 claiming race June 10.
