The longshots Dashing Fellow and Beauty Generation gave trainer John Moore a sweep of the two Group 3 races at Sha Tin Racecourse in Hong Kong on Sunday. Dashing Fellow (24-1) won the National Day Cup at five furlongs on turf, while Beauty Generation (17-1) won the Celebration Cup at seven furlongs on turf. Both races were worth $384,216. Dashing Fellow, who was ridden by Vincent Ho, closed from sixth in a field of 10 to win the National Day Cup by a neck over 9-1 Not Listenin’tome, also trained by Moore. D B Pins, the 8-5 favorite, finished third, beaten 1 1/4 lengths. The race was run on a rainy afternoon on a good-to-yielding turf course that may have aided Dashing Fellow, Moore said. Dashing Fellow carried 116 pounds, 14 fewer than Not Listenin’tome under the handicap conditions of the race. Moore said Dashing Fellow will start in another Group 3 handicap later this month. Beauty Generation raced near the front throughout the Celebration Cup and won by 1 1/2 lengths over Seasons Bloom, the 6-5 favorite. Beauty Only, the champion miler in 2016-17 in Hong Kong, finished fifth at 14-1 as the 133-pound highweight, closing well to be beaten 2 1/4 lengths. Beauty Generation carried 113 pounds, which equaled the lowest assignment in the race. Beauty Generation overcame a wide draw under jockey Derek Leung to challenge for the early lead. Moore said the rain-softened turf was a significant benefit for Beauty Generation. Beauty Generation has won 3 of 8 starts in Hong Kong and is likely to run in a Group 3 handicap later this month, Moore said. In Australia, Beauty Generation was second in the Group 1 Rosehill Guineas in 2016 when racing under the name Montaigne. Horses frequently have their names changed when they are sent to Hong Kong. :: Hong Kong: Free PPs, picks, and analysis
