Moonshine Justice wins Clarendon Stakes

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Moonshine Justice put away 2-5 favorite Flat Rock on the front end before drawing off to win his maiden in style at Woodbine Sunday in the $158,700 Clarendon Stakes.

Moonshine Justice broke on top in the five and a half-furlong dash for Canadian-bred 2-year-olds, and pressed fractions of :23.35 and :47.06 seconds under Todd Kabel. Flat Rock rushed up along the rail to set the pace, but faded in the stretch to finish last in the four-horse field, as Moonshine Hall coasted to a three-length triumph over Da Cardinal. The final time was 1:05.91 seconds.

"He broke sharp, and had me in a good position the whole race," Kabel said. "I sat there and bided my time, and when I asked him to run, he took off."

Moonshine Justice returned $12.10 as the third choice, and banked $99,981 in his second start. Dave Cotey trains the son of Whiskey Wisdom for his Dominion Bloodstock, and partners Hugh Galbraith and Derek Ball.

* Kabel also won Sunday's supporting feature, the $107,000 Belle Mahone Stakes for fillies and mares, aboard Winning Chance ($6.90). Winning Chance ran a mile and a sixteenth in 1:45.27 seconds, and defeated favored One for Rose by three and a half lengths.
