Moon Solitaire best in King Edward

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Kentucky invader Moon Solitaire tracked the early pace and took control in the stretch en route to a comfortable score in the Grade 2, $324,700 at Woodbine Sunday.

With Robert Landry aboard, Moon Solitaire raced three-wide, just off the dueling duo of Steady Ruckus and Stage Classic in the 1 1/8-mile turf event. He hit the front early in the stretch, and, after switching to his right lead at the eighth pole, drew off to win by two lengths over Quiet Resolve, the more fancied half of the favored Sam-Son Farm entry with Strike Smartly.

No Comprende was another head back in third, 1 1/2 lengths clear of fourth-place finisher Proud Man. The final time, over soft turf, was 1:50.26.

"I had a perfect trip," said Landry. "I sat beside those two horses, and didn't move on him until inside the eighth pole. I was pretty confident that they'd really have to be running to catch him."

Moon Solitaire, a European import trained by Henry Cochrane, returned $16.90 and earned $201,420 for Gainsborough Farm, Inc.
