OCEANPORT, N.J. – Summer Applause, trounced by multiple Eclipse Award winner Royal Delta in the Grade 1 Delaware Handicap in her previous start, scored a confidence-restoring victory in the $72,750 Lady’s Secret Stakes for fillies and mares Sunday at Monmouth Park.

After a slight bobble at the break, Summer Applause assumed a stalking position before rallying three wide on the final turn.

Summer Applause, the 1-2 favorite against only three rivals, responded willingly in the lane for jockey Joe Bravo. A 4-year-old trained by Chad Brown, Summer Applause beat Royal Lahaina by 1 1/4 lengths.

“I got into her around the far turn, and she just kept on going,” Bravo said. “She was clearly the best today, and I was lucky enough to be aboard.”

Summer Applause improved to 6 for 13, including three graded stakes victories. She paid $3 to win. The time was 1:45.93 for the 1 1/16 miles on the fast track.
