Trainer Kelly Breen has not yet decided when he will ship Belmont Stakes winer Ruler On Ice to Saratoga for the Travers.

OCEANPORT, N.J. - Weather permitting, Ruler On Ice will have his final workout for the Travers Stakes on Saturday morning at Monmouth Park.

Trainer Kelly Breen said the Belmont Stakes winner will likely head out to the track around 7:30 a.m. with regular rider Jose Valdivia Jr. aboard.

The only major hitch could be the condition of the track. There was moisture in the surface Friday morning following overnight rain and more showers were forecast for later Friday afternoon. A wet track Saturday morning could postpone the work by one day.

Valdivia's status for the workout was clouded on Friday when he was dumped from his mount, Chilkoot Trail, in the stretch run of the  fifth race. The horse ran off after the stumble and Valdivia was able to get up under his own power. He was examined in the track's medical station and sent home with an ice pack on an elbow.

After Ruler On Ice breezes, the next major decision will be a shipping schedule to Saratoga. Given the proximity of the two tracks, Breen said Ruler On Ice could arrive right on top of the race. Another option under consideration with owners George and Lori Hall would be vanning up to Saratoga several days before the Travers to give Ruler On Ice an opportunity to gallop over the track.

That decision won’t be made until after the upcoming workout.

Ruler On Ice was third most recently in Monmouth’s Grade 1 Haskell Invitational. In the Travers, Ruler On Ice is expected to square off again with the first two finishers from the Haskell: Coil, the Haskell winner by a neck, and Shackleford.
