Travis Stone has been the full-time race caller at Louisiana Downs since 2006.

Travis Stone, the race caller for Louisiana Downs, has been hired by Monmouth Park in New Jersey as the track’s new announcer for 2014, Monmouth announced Monday.

Stone, 30, will replace Larry Collmus, the longtime Monmouth Park race caller who was hired late last year as the new race caller for Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky. Stone has been Louisiana Downs’s full-time race caller since 2006. He also has called races at Churchill, Suffolk Downs, Calder Race Course, Golden Gate Fields, Lone Star Park, and Sam Houston Race Park.

“I’m beyond thrilled to have the opportunity to call at a racetrack with the illustrious history and tradition of Monmouth Park,” Stone said in a release from the track. “I’m eagerly awaiting opening day and look forward to sharing my passion for the game with the New Jersey racing community.”

Stone was a guest announcer at Monmouth for one race as part of the track’s “All-Star Announcer Day” in 2007.

Opening day at Monmouth is May 10. The 57-day meet runs through Sept. 28.

Sorry, Travis isnt that good and tries to sound just like Tom Durkin Also it was Larry who got him the job at LaD so guess who probably got him the gig at MTH. Everyone says "Oh excellent find" and I fully disagree with that. Glad I don't wager on NJ racing often b/c now I won't even touch it! Greg's comment below was spot on, just because this guy can be accurate doesn't mean he will be good or exciting. There is NO WAY in hell he is making more at Monmouth than his position with Louisiana Downs. Only 57 days at MTH and you know Kulina's camp are cheap skates so even at $600 a day it isn't worth the move living on the Jersey shore. Most people don't understand that and everything in announcing is who you know! Vic is probably going to land the LaD job by default and it was public knowledge on pace advantage that he was in that state. Sure wasn't to watch closing day at FG!

Dave Rodman of the MD circuit is really good. He seems to fly under the radar and doesn't get national attention.

Vic Stauffer use to call races at Gulfstream, maybe 4 years ago and he was excellent. I would not mind at all if he came to work for the NYRA.

Stone won't wow anyone but he's pretty accurate.

Why won't he wow anyone? Because he won't add fake hysteria like Stauffer or try to be the class clown like Mirahmadi? All a track needs is a competent announcer who imparts information with clarity and accuracy, no gimmicks. Stone's the man.
