Corporate Jungle wins Saturday’s $75,000 Elkwood Stakes by a half-length over Successful Mission at Monmouth Park.

Corporate Jungle gave every indication he could be a serious Breeders’ Cup Mile candidate by the end of the year after winning his third straight at the distance when rallying to a popular half-length victory over defending champion Successful Mission in Saturday’s $75,000 Elkwood Stakes at Monmouth Park.

Successful Mission, who dominated the 2011 Elkwood by more than seven lengths, set a lively pace of 22.68 seconds, 45.83, and 1:09.18 over the firm course while remaining clear leaving the furlong grounds. Corporate Jungle, with Paco Lopez aboard, bided his time near midpack before launching his bid three wide turning for home and gradually wearing down the leader in late stretch. Gourmet Dinner finished best of all to be third, another half-length behind Successful Mission.

Corporate Jungle, a 4-year-old son of Giant’s Causeway, is trained by Chad Brown for Gary and Mary West. He paid $3.40 after completing a mile in 1:32.70.

“I rode him like he was much the best,” Lopez said. “I had plenty of horse the whole way around. I went a little wide turning for home, but I knew I had the winner.  He did it all pretty easily.”
