Monmouth, Meadowlands get new senior VP of racing

Lennon Register, a former racing executive at Pennwood Racing, has been named the senior vice president of racing for Monmouth and the Meadowlands, the owner of the two tracks, the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority, said on Thursday.

Register, who will begin at the authority in August, will replace Dennis Dowd, who has been named the senior vice president of legal and governmental affairs for the authority. Dowd has been the senior vice president of racing since early 2005 after replacing the retiring Bruce Garland.

Register was formerly employed by the authority for 13 years, from 1985 to 1998. When he left the authority for Pennwood, Register was the assistant vice president of financial operations. At Pennwood - a partnership between Penn Gaming and Greenwood Racing - Register was the chief financial officer for nine years.

As senior vice president of racing, Register will be responsible for the operations of both Monmouth and the Meadowlands.

According to the authority, Dowd will concentrate on the authority's plans to open several offtrack wagering parlors in the state. He will also be responsible for legal and legislative issues.- Matt Hegarty
