Monmouth: Livermore Valley pounces

Livermore Valley with Jose Lezcano riding wins the $60,000 Dearly Precious Stakes at Monmouth Park on Saturday.

It might be time for Livermore Valley to step up and face the big girls.

Livermore Valley ($5.40) rallied convincingly to capture the $58,200 Dearly Precious Stakes for 3-year-old fillies at Monmouth Park.

The time was 1:10.40 for the six furlongs as Livermore Valley improved her record to 4 wins in 8 career starts.

"We've kind of stayed away from the top horses, but you're only a 3-year-old filly one time in your life," Ryerson said, adding that "maybe it's time to take a chance" at a New York track "in a month or so."

The possible target: the six-furlong Grade 1 Prioress Stakes at Belmont Park on July 8.

The scratches of My Lucky Free and Win McCool reduced the Dearly Precious field to four. Livermore Valley sat third before making her move on the turn.

"The game plan was to sit right off of the pace and fire home," said jockey Jose Lezcano. "That's all I had to do. My horse broke well and settled right into position. At the top of the stretch, I just let her loose."

Livermore Valley beat Sensation by 2 3/4 lengths with Gleaming Elegance third. Love Locket, far back early, narrowed the gap in the lane to be a closer fourth.

* Emerald Earrings ($5) won the $60,000 West Long Branch Stakes for fillies and mares by 2 1/4 lengths over Gipsy Limits. The time was 1:38.73 for the mile as Emerald Earrings, trained by Bruce Alexander and ridden by Eddie Castro, improved her career mark to 9 wins in 21 starts.
