Monmouth: Filly at the right level

Mikeslittlegirl was way too good for the competition at Charles Town and not quite good enough to beat stakes-caliber fillies in New York. She may have found just the right level to secure her first stakes victory in the $65,000 Just Smashing, a 5 1/2-furlong sprint for 3-year-old fillies, at Monmouth Park.

After dominating in her first three starts, all at Charles Town, Mikeslittlegirl was transferred to Rick Dutrow's barn in New York. She encountered trouble at the start of her first start for Dutrow, then battled for the lead before weakening in the final furlong of the 6 1/2-furlong Lizzy Cool last time out. She should appreciate the cutback to 5 1/2 furlongs.

Sunday Strike, Beau's Valentine, and D'wild Ride all have won two in a row. Of that trio, D'wild Ride appears the most dangerous. She goes turf to dirt for trainer Joe Orseno, a pattern that produced a three-length maiden victory at Fair Grounds in late January.
